Punarnava has many identified medicinal constituents including alkaloid, lignans and salts. It’s overall quality is that of clearing the channels for improved circulation and function within the entire body. This improved fluid movement has far reaching effects like breaking up obstructions such as stones or improve enzymatic function within the digestive system.

Action on Doshas: Pacifies Kapha and the other two doshas
Action on Dhatus: Blood, lymph, bladder, kidneys and organs of digestion.
Punarnava is considered to be the “plant the makes one new again.” As the liver is the primary organ of detoxification and cleansing in the body Punarnava acts to protect the liver and to improve its function, especially in regards to forming new blood cells. It has been used to help with heart conditions characterized by fluid reterntion and to support optimal kidney function. When the digestion is sluggish it can stimulate digestion and treat bloating and gas. It has far reaching effects including diabetes, arthritis and excess menstrual bleeding.
