Main Cleanse FAQ's

Q. How much kraut do I eat during the day?
For the best results it is best to eat about 2 tablespoons of kraut with every meal. You can continue eating kraut for the next 30 days to really rehabilitate the intestines.

Q. I am a little confused about the four options for the Main Cleanse. Can you elaborate on them?
Option 1 included either quinoa or basmati rice and split or whole mung beans in combination with spices to make Kichari and fermented vegetables. This is the most austere. Option two Is the previous option in addition to vegetables and fruits. This is the most commonly chosen option. Option 3 includes the above in addition to any gluten free grains or other types of beans. This provides more flexibility. Option 4 includes all of the previous options and wild game meats or sugar free protine powder. This is for people who are having an extremely hard time with the Kichari.

Q. Can I add additional salt to my food without having adverse effects on the cleanse?
Yes, adding salt so that your Kichari tastes good is important. Adding a little oil can also improve the digestibility of the beans in the Kichari. Do what it takes for your food to taste good and it will be more satisfying.

Q. There are two kinds of brown and white basmati rice. What kind of rice is best?
Ayurveda recommends organic white basmati rice for the cleanse. There are two reasons for this. Although rare in organic agriculture sometimes the chaff of the brown rice can absorb arsenic if it is in the soil and water. As the chaff is removed in the case of the white rice then the arsenic is also removed. The chaff also has the oils and those oils can become rancid if the rice is old. Since there is no way to know how long it has been since the rice was harvested it is simpler to choose white rice.

Q. My family has been complaining that I smell like the herbs. Is that normal?
This is considered a good sign as it indicates that your body is changing and that you are starting to detoxify and that the herbs are accumulating to a medicinal dose in the body. If it bothers you then you can stop taking the herbs and see if the smell improves.

Q: If I stopped taking my herbs and now I am adding them back in. How do I do that?
A: When you are starting to add them back in choose one formula and take one tablet at a meal starting with Lunch.
Reintroduce them in the following order: blood cleanse, shilajit, turmeric, liver formula. If you feel heavy again with one of the herbs, then leave it out for a day or so and try again.

Q: It says to pick one option of Kichari and stick to it. What does that mean?
A: That means that you choose either basmati rice and mung or quinoa and mung as the base of the kichari and stick to that combination for your kichari. If you have chosen Option 3 then you can have other grains and beans as well.

Q: Do we do a NO fat diet for the Main Cleanse?
A: If you are wanting to lose weight than follow a LOW fat diet for the main cleanse by not eating more than 2 Tablespoons of oil a day. If you are not trying to lose weight than you can eat up to 4 Tablespoons of oil a day.

Q: How much kraut do I eat with my Kichari?

A: You can have 1-2 Tablespoons of kraut with meals.

Q: When can I eat the Chutney’s in the manual?
A: The sesame seed chutney can be used in all phases. The coriander chutney can be used now if you have chosen option 3 and can be used in the Preparation and Post Cleanse phase.
