Kapha Vata balancing diet

Kapha dosha is cold, dry, and heavy. Favor foods that are light, moist, and warm.  Foods with pungent and sour tastes are beneficial for pacifying Kapha-Vata.  Sweet and bitter tastes can be reduced.

Recommendations

1.    Dairy products tend to increase Kapha and decrease Vata. All dairy is best taken warm with a small amount of spices such as ginger and cardamom.

2.    Fruits are best when they are sour and not overly ripened or sweet. Fruit in general should not be a staple of the diet but is all right for occasional use.

3.    Honey is the best sweetener.

4.    Legumes are best cooked in a pressure cooker with warm spices. As they contain earth and air, they are heavy and dry which can harm both doshas when digestion is weak.

5.    Favor the grains of Amaranth, basmati rice, brown rice, buckwheat, quinoa, wild rice.

6.    Eat dry roasted and lightly salted nuts. Pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and piñon (pine nuts) are best.

7.    All spices are pacifying to Kapha-Vata.

8.    The diet should consist primarily of cooked vegetables. However, occasional use of raw vegetables is all right as long as there is no constipation or gas.

 9.    For non-vegetarians, bone broth. chicken and turkey (dark meat), fish (fresh river and sea) are acceptable.
