Indian Myrrh Commiphora mukul Character: The Cleanser This resin is remarkable in that it scrapes toxins and undigested material from the channels in the body. It has a long history of use as a tonic for longevity. It is often combined with Triphala or other herbal formulas in the treatment of specific conditions. Guna: Light, dry Rasa: Astringent, bitter, sweet, pungent Vipaka: pungent Virya: hot Prabhava: anti-inflammatory Main Action: analgesic, fat removing, digestive stimulant, bone mender, aphrodisiac Action on Doshas: Decreases Vata and Kapha. Action on Dhatus: Blood, Lymph, Gastric juices, nervous system, lungs Description: This resin has been heavily studied for it’s LDL lowering effect and has been used to regulate obesity and to improve thyroid function. Many herbs are often combined with guggulu in order to treat different arthritic conditions. It’s powerful clearing action has also been shown to improve accumulations in the female reproductive system such as endometriosis. Lastly it is used to replace antibiotics to treat acne.
