Connecting the dots with Ayurveda

Dieticians, nutritionists, health coaches we all go through similar training regimes.

Learning about fatty acids, amino acids, monosaccharides and the like.

Learning about motivation, willpower, self-control and other such things.

So since our training is similar you would think that each one of us would get the same results.

That health would be easy to come by as we share our information with willing patients ready to make lasting changes.

But…

That is rarely the case for everyone.
I know many people who love nutrition, who love helping others and yet they could not make a living doing what they love.

So what gives?

What is needed for those of us with the passion, the heart, the love to live our lives sharing it with others?

One strategy is Ayurveda. While it is inundated with unpronounceable words and foreign concepts there is one thread that allows Ayurveda to help people succeed and that is an understanding of the internal ecology.

Yes you can get the same information with a lab test and skilled clinicians can get the same information with good questions based on a health history questionnaire.

This is not something that is exclusive to Ayurveda, but it is something that is extremely powerful when encouraged in any nutrition based system of medicine.

It is understanding the person and their body with as much precision as you understand food.

The understanding of the unique physiology of the person is what is missing.

The system of Ayurveda provides a roadmap for understanding individual physiological differences and providing guidance on how different bodies and minds will respond to nutritional interventions.

Ayurveda is not a generic system. It recognizes that the story, physiology and therefore the treatment is unique. Yes there may be some common threads that can be extracted. Or common approaches that can be utilized, but the way the treatment is organized regardless of whether it employs the same recommendations is unique.

This is the essence of rhythm of healing. Each note is not unique but the way in which they are organized in order to create a symphony is.

The internal environment, the physiology in which the food finds itself determines how well that food supports the individual. Feeding your body the right food for you can only happen when you understand how you respond when food and your body meet.

This is the science of Ayurveda
